Wednesday: Order Rally Armor mudflaps with red lettering
Friday: Package delivered!
Saturday: Quality time with my mom as I commandeered her garage to use as a level space for installation.
First impressions were that the flaps were smaller than I expected but about what I thought material-wise. The mats are glossy, high impact material with metal brackets for support. Stainless steel screws are used to thread provided plastic mounts at OEM points. Basically replace the old pieces with provided parts at current mounting points and done. Front wheels just rotate out of the way but the rears had to come off for installation.
All said, I’m very happy with the result. It was a good activity with my mom, who is very handy around the house and whose first car was a 78 Mustang that she would raid junkyards for parts. She got me interested in Mustangs at a young age and therefore cars.
Pics below.

You’ll rally it now?

It’s funny, I’ve actually thought about how the FoST would be terrific for rally down the road when I have a garage and another means of travel.

So jealous that your car actually has places to mount mudflaps. I’ve been sitting here for nearly a year with a set of similar red-on-black Rally Armor flaps, just waiting to get the balls to finally go out there and drill some holes.

Popular mod on the MS3, which is like the FoST’s cousin. I like the look, but I don’t go off-road, so it’s a bit unecessary for me.

Primary reason I went with these were that some Opponauts recommended them and research showed that they used all existing mounting points. Brilliant.
My neighbor came over to see if I needed a drill or something and it basically blew his mind that it wasn’t needed. I don’t think I could get over it to just go out and drill.

I started thinking about it this past spring when I gave it a wash and accidentally bumped the rear fender and about a pound of sand, salt and gravel fell out. Thought it would help with shenanigans.

Crazy that 30 years ago, mudflaps looked a lot more like this — functional.
The OEM crap we pay $100+ for today is a joke. It’s all style, no protection.

I couldn’t even find ones from Ford...only “splash guards” or whatever they call them. Absolute garbage considering the prices on those and then these. Why even bother at that point when other companies are making it easy, quality and affordable?

Yeah, definitely. The biggest problem for me is going to be the back. There’s no lining inside of my back bumper, so I only have the thin edge of it to attach anything. I’m thinking that I’ll need to build something that can attach to the spare tire lump for the insides of the flaps to connect to, or I might even get a long, thin piece of metal to just attach them to each other or something. Either way, the back end is what I’m most worried about screwing up. No pun intended.

That's a good point. Give us an update at some point...the amount of crap that builds up in every crevice around my tires during snow is ridiculous.

Crap, didn’t even think of that. One of my favorite things to do when I get a new car is to knock out stuff from behind the fenders/rocker panels. I haven’t done it to this one because my back’s borked.

Hmmmm...have you mocked up the flaps to see where you could/would have to add points? Regardless, the effort alone would just have me be like...mehhhhh maybe next week.
For a year at a time.

Oh definitely.
The past couple winters have been brutal so I think this one is going to be more mild with El Nino having a country-wide effect. Last year I had buildup along the wheel wells to the point that there was almost no space left after a drive. It was insane.

Bounce a soccer ball or something into it? Haha.

I bought a set of these for my car as well, unfortuately they didn’t show up yet.
Like you the biggest reason I got them is they are a well put together solution, using nice fasteners and factory holes. That’s worth the higher price to me.

Why a soccer ball? Because I’m Mexican? RACISM!!!!!!! =P

Nice!

Not really. I did once, but it was long enough ago that I would have to do it again.

Looks great! I’m planning to get some by the end of the year myself, but skid plate comes first.

Yeah I've even had trouble steering due to snow/ice buildup. They're expecting worse snow than usual here this year so maybe I should just go for it.

Haha.
I went through about 30 different ways to knock the car because of your back before going for the tried and true accidental soccer ball shot. Won’t dent! Maybe! Hopefully!

I’ve been seriously considering these for the winter and the occasional gravel road. Did you use the metal brackets they supplied? I see some reviews where people don’t use the brackets because they make the flaps stick out.
![]() 11/07/2015 at 18:16 |

Yeah I used the brackets. Idk why you wouldn’t because the line up behind the flaps for support. The flaps themselves stuck out an inch or so to protect the side of the vehicle. Looks good overall... Better than expected
See? That’s the minimum overlap I could get.
